Priority enrollment window closes May 24th!
Although we understand that some homeschooling families may not necessarily subscribe to the idea of "grade levels" in the same way that traditional schools are structured, we have labeled our 5 class levels below with the typical "grades" your child might be enrolled in, if they were not homeschooled. However, rather than sort strictly by age or "grade," we aim to group our classes together more by ability and social skills, while of course, maintaining appropriate peer-to-peer interactions and experiences.
The Skipper Nursery is a fun space for the younger children of co-op families who are not yet old enough to attend classes. In addition to our littlest ones having all their basic needs met, like feeding, diapering, and being comforted, our toddlers also get the chance to play cooperatively and creatively with their peers, and the opportunity to engage in some exciting rotating activities such as story time, games, music time, and even some simple crafts.

The Mariners class is provided as a courtesy to support co-op families with enrolled school-age children. The Mariners' half-day of classes end at lunch [12:00pm] and they can spend the afternoon playing outside, in the nursery, or napping until their older sibling's classes are finished at 2:00pm.

Maturing in the grammar stage, Discoverer students are moving from 'learning to read' to 'reading to learn,' and begin looking for the reasons behind things they're learning. In order to best facilitate learning, assignments, and activities within the classroom, students will be expected to meet specific academic and social milestones before enrolling or advancing into the Discoverers class.

The Voyagers class is designed for the emerging independent learner, as students are continuing to grow socially, academically, and spiritually. Transitioning into the logic stage, Voyagers students are eager to seek the meaning behind the content they are learning and begin to make connections across the subjects. As they are challenged to ask 'why?,' students begin to recognize the properties of sound arguments and lines of thinking. In order to best facilitate the classroom's pace, material covered, and in-class activities and assignments, students will be expected to meet specific academic and social milestones before enrolling or advancing into the Voyagers class.

Fully immersed in the logic stage, Admiral students are growing in independent thinking skills and further developing the tools needed for self-education, self-motivation, and academic engagement. While the Admirals share the overall curriculum cycle and some class time with the Voyagers, the Admirals are students ready to take on an increased workload with some additional assignments, participate readily in socratic class discussions, and of course, enjoy the camraderie of fellow peers within their age group. Admirals will be challenged with a middle-school science and historical literature components.

Although we are not able to offer high-school level classes at this time, older siblings of co-op students may choose to come with their families to SALT and volunteer. If interested, they may serve as a helper in the Skipper Nursery or Mariners preschool class, gaining valuable life experience and skills in the process. SALT Administrators will gladly validate these volunteer or service hours, if the family is tracking this parameter for the purposes of maintaining a transcript. We are also happy to serve as professional references, should the need arise as the student pursues future employment opportunities. Please contact SALT Administrators for more information or if your high-school student is interested in volunteering with us!
