Priority enrollment window closes May 24th!
Can I drop my child off at SALT?
We are NOT a drop off program. SALT is a cooperative effort and is structured so that every family must contribute toward our group. We rely on every family to have an adult present to also keep things running smoothly when people call out sick or when unexpected events occur. Our insurance requires that a parent of each child is present on campus at all times.
Can I make special arrangements to send my child with a friend or other guardian?
Currently, SALT operates as a MOTHERS ONLY co-op. For safety and security reasons and for the comfort of other families, we cannot allow students to be sent to co-op with other family members or friends as "fill-in" guardians. This also stems from our obligation to do our best to provide a steady and consistent experience in the classroom for our students. In the case of an extended leave of absence for materity leave, other health-related issues, or family emergency, alternate arrangements may be proposed and approved by SALT Administrators on an as-needed and temporary basis.
"i want to be with my child" -or- "i don't want to be with my child" in class during the day! how are classroom serving assignments handled?
Our first priority in assigning moms to classrooms is getting our Skipper Nursery and Mariners squared away. These little ones need their parents the most, so nursing mothers and those with children in the Nursery or Pre-K class will have first choice of staying with their child and serving in these areas. All moms are surveyed before classroom assignments are made for the year, asked about their preferences, and what classroom(s) might be the best place for them to serve. We take this information into serious consideration when making the schedule and try our best to accommodate requests, while also making sure that each classroom has the help they need to run smoothly. If there are special circumstances, please email us.
How many families are you accepting for 2025-2026?
Our heart is always to serve and resource as many homescholing families as possible! For the 2025-2026 school year, we estimate that our maximum enrollment will be approximately 25-27 families, or about 75 students. We believe those numbers are the most appropriate for our co-op design, current resources, and the size of the building we're renting.
Can I apply to SALT for my preschooler?
Our co-op is designed primarily for school-aged children. Unfortunately, we do not have the building capacity or resources to admit individual preschoolers at this time. As such, application submissions for families whose oldest child is not at least Kindergarten age [5 years old by 9/15/25 and entering the Sailors class] will not be processed. The Mariners preschool class is provided as a courtesy to support co-op families with enrolled school-age children.
Why does the morning schedule start with worship?
It's a time that we see as valuable and central to the design, mission, and vision of SALT co-op. We see morning worship is an opportunity to seek the presence of the Lord together, with our children, inviting Him to dwell among us as we serve and teach at SALT; exalting the name of Jesus in unity and building a throne of praise where He can reign, surrendering our efforts to His will and purpose. We want to allow the Holy Spirit to encourage spirits and minister to hearts, and for our children to experience His manifest presence with the freedom to experiment expression in their own unique giftings. During this time of worship and prayer, we take time to ask that He would bless the work of our collective hands, and multiply it supernaturally. It's a time of acknowledging, with our children, that He is worthy of our praise, worthy of our time, and that apart from Him we can do nothing. Without Him as the center, we labor in vain.
Are students required to purchase specific learning materials for classes?
Yes, a list of required materials for the upper levels of classes will be distributed to families by mid-July. Typically, Discoverer, Voyager, and Admiral students need history and science textbooks. These resources may be purchased new, or are also usually easy to locate for a discounted price on the used market. The Sailors and Mariners classes will not need any additional learning materials. Any resources deemed as required by teachers are necessary for the student to be able to participate class and complete assigned homework. The costs of textbooks and other required materials are NOT included in the price of enrollment and will need to be purchased separately by individual families.
Do SALT teachers assign homework?
Yes, as a highly-academic co-op and the backbone curriculum of your student's elective studies, the teachers in upper level classes typically assign homework to be completed during the week. Please see the Student Expectations section to read more about our academic philosophy and sample assignments by grade level.
I have additional questions! How can I contact an Administrator?
