Priority enrollment window closes May 24th!
As you consider applying to SALT, we ask that you take a moment to read, understand, and ensure your agreement with the following requirements and expectations:
Each mother is expected to be physically present each week during class and break times with their children. While, of course, we will all do our best to make sure everyone is safe, each mom is ultimately responsible for her own child’s safety and behavior during the day. Mothers must remain on-site at all times. SALT is NOT a drop-off co-op!
Because our goal is to provide a steady experience for our children, we ask that you make SALT a priority in your homeschool life. We understand that emergencies arise and illnesses happen, but families should commit from the beginning to make their best effort to attend and arrive on time to co-op every week. We ask that families have no more than 2 planned absences per school year.
The participation of ALL mothers is essential to the success of the co-op. All of the teachers will be coming from within our families, and each parent is required to serve in some way during our weekly classes. In addition to the teaching, classroom helper, and/or nursery duty requirements, each mother will also be assigned to specific tasks on a rotating basis that they will be expected to fulfill, such as lunch clean up, classroom closer, bathroom duty, etc.
There are also non-teaching roles and responsibilities that will need to be covered, such as field trip organizing, fellowship activities, and co-op party planning. Each mother will also be expected to present a short devotional to the group during morning worship, once or twice throughout the school year. In an effort to be a good example to the students, we ask that helpers be fully engaged and NOT on their phones during class.
Students are expected to use general classroom courtesy and respect toward all teachers, helpers, and other classmates. Students may not have phones out in class. Disrespectful or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Regardless of whether the student will receive a “grade” from the teacher, out of respect for the other students and the teacher’s time, any and all homework assignments are expected to be handed in on time and in the format requested by the teacher. In the same manner, any readings assigned as preparation for a class are required to be completed beforehand.
As a reminder, SALT is an elective-focused co-op and Language Arts and Math are NOT specifically covered in the curriculum. These core subjects will need to be taught in-depth, separately, independently, and at your child’s own pace at home, utilizing curriculum and methods best suited for your family.
However, the SALT curriculum IS designed to be used as the backbone curriculum for the following subjects in elementary and middle school: Science, Social Studies & History, Geography, Art, Music, Bible, and Public Speaking. You are more than welcome to supplement the required texts, readings, and activities at home, if desired, but we want to make it clear that our curriculum and course of study is meant to be used as the core of your child’s elective studies. Trying to use an entirely different curriculum alongside what is done at SALT will most likely be unsuccessful and overwhelming.
