Priority enrollment window closes May 24th!
As a "true" cooperative with a shared-work model design, each parent is required to serve in some way during our weekly classes at SALT. The participation of all mothers is essential to the success of the co-op. All of the teachers voluntarily come from within our families!
Teaching at SALT is highly encouraged and our hope is that all our members would be willing to take on a class to teach, but we also want to allow for greater flexibility in changing seasons of family life. Ultimately, however, if for some reason we are unable to voluntarily fill our teaching positions, we may ask all members to prayerfully consider teaching a class for the school year in order to meet the needs of the co-op.
Teaching classes takes preparation outside of co-op. To incentivize and also reward and honor the commitment our teachers are making, we offer incentives such as maintaining the "first right of refusal" for continuing to teach their current class(es) and first selection of other classes before new families are enrolled. Willingness and interest in teaching is also a high priority component in our application and enrollment decisions.
Teaching classes takes preparation outside of co-op, in varying degrees, depending on the grade level and subjects being taught. Curriculum materials and corresponding reference books will be provided via the SALT Curriculum Library to each teacher for the purposes of syllabus building and lesson planning.
Teachers are expected to come well prepared to teach their class(es) and cover the scheduled material each week. They are responsible for spending their alloted budget for the year wisely and responsibly on necessary supplies for any activities they have planned. Teachers have access to our printer and copy machine to be able to prepare any type of printed resources they would like to utilize in their classroom. If applicable to their class and grade level, teachers are also responsible for entering weekly homework assignments into the appropriate documents on the SALT Drive.
Classroom Helpers
Every week, each mother in the co-op will be assigned to serve in some capacity throughout the day. If they are not actively teaching or serving in the Skipper Nursery, they will most likely be fulfilling one of the classroom helper roles. While in class, helpers should be fully focused on helping the students concentrate on what the teacher is presenting and assisting with any hands-on activities. In an effort to be a good example to the students, we ask that classroom helpers be fully engaged and not on their phones during class, except when needed for classroom purposes.
